What can we do to make our senior or aging dogs' life a little more comfortable. What can we incorporate into their life, routine and diet to make their life easier. Here are a few suggestions you may find suitable for your pooch

Orthopedic Beds:
Invest in a high-quality orthopedic bed that cushions joints and relieves pressure points.
Choose beds with memory foam or raised edges for additional support.
Temperature Control:
Provide a warm spot during winter with heated pads or blankets.
Keep them cool in summer using cooling mats or ensuring air circulation in their resting areas.
Joint Supplements:
Green lipped Muscle extract
Antinol is a natural supplement packed with marine lipid fractions (e.g., PCSO-524®) that promote joint health and reduce inflammation.
Clinical studies show that Antinol can improve mobility and quality of life for dogs with arthritis and joint issues.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Found in fish oil or specific supplements, omega-3s help reduce inflammation, improve skin and coat health, and support brain function in older dogs.

Glucosamine & Chondroitin
These popular joint supplements work together to maintain cartilage health and slow the progression of arthritis.
Turmeric (Curcumin)
Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties that can ease joint pain and improve overall comfort for senior dogs. Use pet-safe turmeric blends for the best results.

Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes
Improve your senior dog’s digestion and nutrient absorption with probiotics, ensuring they maintain a healthy gut. (See previous post on saccharomyces boulardii)
Rosehip Powder:
Contains Vitamin C derived from plant polyphenols have an anti-inflammatory galactolipid (GOPO) that can help reduce inflammation around painful joints affected by osteoarthritis,. The natural compounds have been shown in studies to reduce inflammation effectively, leading to less pain and better mobility for dogs with joint issues.
Easier Accessibility:
Use ramps or stairs to help your dog climb onto furniture or access the car.
Place food and water bowls at a comfortable height to reduce strain.
Gentle Exercise:
Engage in short, slow-paced walks or play sessions to keep their muscles active without overexertion.
Consider hydrotherapy for low-impact exercise.
Regular Vet Visits:
Schedule frequent health check-ups to monitor conditions like arthritis, vision, or hearing loss.
Preventative care ensures your senior pup stays happy and healthy.
Soft Toys and Chews:
Offer softer toys and chews that are easier on aging teeth and gums.
Quality Time:
Spend extra time cuddling or brushing your dog, as senior dogs thrive on affection and routine.
