Taste buds in dogs

Did you know dogs have less taste buds than humans ??? depending on the breed, Dogs can detect five tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty and savoury/umami. The ability to detect small amounts of sour and bitter tastes allows carnivores to detect if a food source is rancid or safe to consume. Sugar, Out of all of the five tastes, is actually the lowest and dogs have few ‘sweet’ taste buds than any of the other five tastes. Dogs uniquely have specialised taste buds at the tip of the tongue. this is so they can detect fresh water, so toxic water is not ingested
